Janet and Tommy/Old Christ Church Pensacola, Florida Photographer

Janet and Tommy were so much fun!  From the moment I heard of their wedding, I was so excited!  The Bride planned this wedding in less than a month.  Her dream was to have a wedding at Old Christ Church and when she called they had a cancellation for August, only problem was that it was July!  So she and her family scrambled to put together a wedding fit for a renaissance queen.  This couple is not your everyday Bride and Groom. Though they had the ceremony at Old Christ Church in Pensacola,  they had fairies as flowergirls.  The Bride walked down the aisle to INXS's "Never Tear Us Apart" and the bridesmaids danced and the fairies twirled all the way down to the Alter.  After the ceremony the bride and groom and I took a few pictures and boy were they fun!  Tommy had so many fun ideas and they were up for anything in the short amount of time we had.  I could take pictures of them all day!  Then we headed to the reception at The Angus.  The guests were completely wined and dined and the food was divine!  As the end drew near we realized that no one planned the exit.  Since we had no bubbles or sparklers they decided to make a bridge of hands for the couple to walk through!  Congratulations Janet and Tommy!  I hope you are enjoying your European Honeymoon!  I am so jealous!

Hunter's Letter from the Senator!/ Gulf Breeze Photographer

We were so surprised Saturday to find a special letter from Senator Don Gatez in the mail for Hunter!  It said that he had some of the highest grades in the state on his FCAT scores for math!  This is a big deal because Hunter is ADHD.  No, he isn't on meds because I am lazy and don't want to work with him, he is on them because he was failing in school.   No matter what I or his teachers did, he could not read or concentrate.  He was miserable and we had to hold him back in kindergarten.  There was just no way he would have been able to pass 1st grade.  His second kindergarten teacher spent lots of time one on one with him and thought he was doing well until his SAT10 tests came back and he did horrible on the reading section.  She then told me she thought he may be dislexyic which I was wondering myself.  He seemed to comprehend things if you read to him but he couldn't read to himself.  He was only 7 years old and they wouldn't do any testing to find out what was going on with him.  When he was almost 8 his 1st grade teacher called a meeting with the school about Hunter's disabilities and asked that I have him checked for ADD.  We never considered ADHD because I was used to his hyper activity and didn't realize he was any different than the other kids.  I told him to our doctor and he sat him on the table and asked him to sit there for a few minutes while he talked to me and my husband.  Little did we realize, he was testing Hunter.  You see, there is no test to tell you if your child is truely ADD or ADHD.  Hunter wiggled and he squirmed and he mimiced the doctor's hand gestures and really was going wild! I really had no idea!  So we started him on a medicine called Concerta.  It worked great!  He was able to concentrate, he was behaving in school and getting good grades.  The best part was he like it!  He begged me to give him his meds.  He likes the control he feels he has over his actions.  He went from not being able to put together legos to being able to build sets that were above his age level.  It was incredible! He also got a report card of straight A's last year!  Of course, there were downsides to these meds.  The body gets used to them and you have to up the dosage or change the drug as the child grows.  Hunter has been through two other meds since the beginning.  He stopped eating lunch and we would have to make him eat.  He was kind of emotionless and zombielike.  I didn't like this.  He started having headaches and tummy aches and complained of his heart hurting.  We had him checked and everything was fine but we decided to try a different medicine.  This time it is called guanfacine and it is not a controlled substance like the others.  It is also a lot cheaper because it comes in a generic.  After being put on this medicine last June, Hunter has gained at least 10 lbs!  That was just over the summer!  He is more lively and funny and cute!  I'm hoping that his grades stay up.  We will see with his report card.  In the meantime, I'm just so stinkin proud of him!  He is proud of himself and I can tell how much self esteem that piece of paper has given him over the last few days!  He is such an awesome kid and I love him so much!  He makes me so proud to be him Mom, good grades or not!
